What interests me are stories and the hidden ones we attach within the relationship between us and objects. I believe that our surroundings and how we interact with them reveal a lot about who we are. Exploring the proximity of these two worlds through a camera allows these memories to be put into something physical that we can hold. I try to reach out to regular people and ignite nostalgia within them, making them think of simpler times. A mix of studio still life and observatory portraits is how I explore these themes.
This kind of work is relevant to those who are interested in everyday people and stories. Finding appreciation and interest in the mundane. The work feels important to me as there is an emotional connection to the subject. I can spend time with it and I know the people photographed deeply therefore feel confident that I can accurately represent them or at least how they are to me. This kind of style with observatory portraits translates well into my chosen area of unit stills. Capturing what is in front of me in ‘normal’ environments.
